Town of Fraser Staff have created a packet to provide clear understanding, support and guidance for implementation of the disposable bag fee into the Fraser business community. Successful integration of this fee into your day to day business operations will help our Town set an example for others to emulate.
As you may know, the Town of Fraser Ordinance No. 458 - Disposable Bag Fee was adopted by the Fraser Board of Trustees on October 3, 2018 which places a 20-cent fee on all new disposable plastic and paper checkout bags at retail and grocery stores in Town. The required implementation deadline for applicable businesses to impose the disposable bag fee is April 1, 2019.
We understand that implementation of the fee may be challenging for many businesses and employees. During implementation of this program, the Town of Fraser has available supporting materials and guidance for administration, education, and signage. Businesses retain 40 percent of all disposable bag fees charged and the Town of Fraser will collect 60 percent. Disposable bag fee revenues may only be used for administration of the bag fee and sustainability initiatives for both the Town of Fraser and the place of business.
