Disposable Bag Fee

The Town of Fraser Municipal Code Chapter 7, Article 8 - Disposable Bag Fee wBag Fee Graphicas adopted by the Fraser Board of Trustees on October 3, 2018 which places a 20-cent fee on all new disposable plastic and paper checkout bags at retail and grocery stores in Town. The required implementation deadline for applicable businesses to impose the disposable bag fee is April 1, 2019. All exemptions and more details about the adopted disposable bag fee can be read by clicking the link above to reference the Town of Fraser Municipal Code.

Fraser currently uses over one million checkout bags a year or about 300 bags per person per year. Plastic bags are produced from non-renewable resources, are very difficult to recycle and contaminate recycling facility equipment. Plastic bags do not biodegrade, so they remain as litter in the environment. Paper bags are recyclable but take a very large amount of water and energy to produce. The Disposable Bag Fee will help mitigate these problems by charging a fee to consumers that choose to use disposable bags and encourage the use of reusable bags.
